The RA Summer Open, with mixed gender draws, was held August 25-27 and attracted 40 players including out- of- towners from Quebec City, Montreal (5) and Kingston. In the “A” event, Maxym Leclair used his greater agility to beat David Guest 16-14 in the third and final game, after trailing 2-7. Tarun Balaraj took 3rd place over Mario Gagnon of Quebec City. Patrick McDonnell-Alegre avenged several previous losses to Patrick Duquette, by beating him 3-1 in the Plate final. In the “B” event, Chris Ling of Queensview beat Erez Paz of Kingston, while Richard Brabant of Montreal outlasted Steve Gobel, 17-15 in the 5th, to take 3rd spot, with Jonathan Laplante of Montreal taking the Plate. The “C” title went to Assad Khan who beat his 15 year old opponent, Philippe Shillington, 3-1. Alix Deffieux of Montreal overcame her opponent, Kevin Strachan of Petawawa, 3-0 for 3rd place. The “D” event saw up and coming 11 year old Iman Shaheen of Barrhaven, winning her first senior title in 3 straight over Alexander Ross, with Felix Carty in 3rd spot.
