This year’s Oktober Squash Fest was hosted by La Sportheque, between October 21 and 23, and had 54 entries in the five adult events and 9 in the Junior. Host pro, Maxym Leclair, was too fast and too accurate for David Guest of the OAC, whom he beat 11-8,11-8,11-8 in the Men’s A event. Sophie Joubarne, from Club Atwater in Montreal, played a fast aggressive game to overwhelm her club mate, Marie Martinez, 11-4,11-8,11-6 for the Women’s A title. In the Men’s B/C event, Karim Michael of the Midtown Sporting Club in Montreal defeated his father Ayman Michael in 4 very close games. In the Women CD event, Jill Sladen-Pilon from the Cote de Liesse club in Montreal came back from 2-1 down to win a thriller, 18-16 in the 5th over Dominique Smith, a fourth year student at the University of Ottawa. Other winners included Alexander Ross in the Mens D, and Mathis-Olivier Cote in the Junior event.
