Born in Wales and took up squash in 1964, playing for Wales 1965-68. She came to Toronto in October 1968, and Ottawa in November 1970. Her contributions to squash as a player, official and volunteer in Canada, Ontario and Ottawa have spanned over five decades. Member of Rideau T & SC from 1970 until it ceased to be a squash club several years ago, and RA Centre (1978 to date). She was part of the founding group of the ODSA and has served on the Committee at various times over thirty years including positions of Secretary, President, Rankings Coordinator and Officiating liaison.

Accomplishments

  • Ontario Women’s Closed Champion (Hardball) in 1970, (Softball) in 1972 and 1974 to 1977, and Open Champion (Softball) in 1976 and 1977.
  • Canadian Women’s  40+ champion – 1983 and 1984, and 45+ champion in 1989 and 1990
  • Member of four Canadian team 1976-81. The 1979 team came 4th at 1st World Women’s Team Championship in 1979, in Birmingham, UK.
  • Finalist in World Women’s Masters 45+ in 1989, in Warmond, Netherlands
  • Became a National level referee at the inception of the Canadian Officiating Program in the late 1970’s and soon after appointed as National Officiating Assessor and Instructor which she still is.
  • Qualified as a Level 2 Coach
  • Served on the Canadian and Ontario Officiating Committees, being Chair of both, at different times. Also served on the National Teams Committee during the 1980s.
  • Has refereed at 4 World Championships, 2 World Masters Games, 2 PanAm Games, 2 PanAm Championships, and 1 PanAm Junior Championship.
  • In 1974 and 1975 received City of Ottawa Sports Awards for Squash, and, in 2019, the City’s Lifetime Technical Official Award.
  • In 1989 and 1990 received Province of Ontario National Achievement Awards in recognition of distinguished performance in the field of amateur sport, and in 2006 recognized, by the Government of Ontario, with the Syl Apps Volunteer Award.
  • In 1997 received Squash Ontario Special Achievement Award, and in 2012 received the Squash Ontario Simon Warder Officials Outstanding Achievement Award – nominated, and voted upon, by her peers.
  • Inducted to the Squash Canada Wall of Fame on December 3, 2014.
