U of Ottawa Squash Team Gains Official Status

Good squash news. The University of Ottawa has made squash an official
varsity sport. U Ottawa has long had a squash club but it did not have official university
backing akin to lacrosse, soccer, volleyball and other teams. This year, however, U
Ottawa has made squash a competitive team, Gee-Gees Squash Club, on par with
other traditional varsity sports.

Ron Hughes grew up in Calgary, graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago, and became a PE teacher in his hometown. Ian Milne was one of Ottawa’s most accomplished squash promoters and planners during the heyday of our game in the 1970s and 1980s.
