On December 7 and 8, the Ottawa Athletic Club hosted their Winter Open, with three men’s and one women’s events. Continuing their rivalry in the Men’s ‘A’ event, David Guest eked out the win over Matt Arkett 11-2, 9-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, in a match featuring a great variety of shots and pace, and some great retrieving. It should be mentioned that Matt came off court about an hour earlier, after making a great comeback to beat Nick James, in the semi-finals, by a score of 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9.
In the Men’s ‘B’ and the Women’s round robins, Dale Poirier and Helen Kennedy respectively, both prevailed without losing a match, while the Men’s ‘C/D’ event was won by Jason Solares by 3 games to 2 over Arek Burcew.
