Between October 31 and November 3, Wallace Squash hosted the $12,000 PSA Women’s event, two other women’s events, and four men’s events, at the Goodlife-Queensview Club. There were 16 players in the PSA event and 64 in other events. Wallace Squash Club members won 6 of the 7 events, including Sam Cornett’s very popular victory in the PSA draw.
Perhaps the most outstanding performances came from 14 year old Iman Shaheen, who not only won 11 well earned points from current Canadian Women’s Champion, Sam, in the opening round of the PSA event, but went on to reach the semi-finals of the Men’s Div. 1 draw. She lost 2 games to 3 in a thrilling match against Steve Oakey, ranked No. 12 in the ODSA area. Good luck to her at the upcoming Canadian, U.S., and British Junior Championships.
In other action, current Ontario 60+ Women’s champion, Lorraine Tetreault won the Women’s Div. 1 title, and Annie Durocher, another up and coming player from La Sportheque, took the Women’s Div. 2 title without losing a game. In the Men’s Div. 1, Alex Gloor overcame Steve Oakey 3-2, in the Men’s Div. 2, Avram Stern of Wallace Squash beat clubmate Arek Burcew also 3 games to 2, and in the Men’s Div. 3, Stephane Du Plooy won over Rahmat Shahidi. Mike Glaser was unbeaten in the Men’s 50+ Round Robin.
