Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Hello ODSA Squashers,

We are indeed in challenging times due to the implications of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Governments and organizations are reacting to the situations quickly and with various measures.

Besides the various recommendations of governmental health agencies there has been reaction from local municipal administrators that directly effects community activities and us, the ODSA.  Most directly is the decision of the City of Ottawa to close all Recreation (sports) Facilities.  As you may well know this directly effects 6 of our 36 ODSA City League teams. ( 3 x ORL & NEP). Edit: [2020-03-16] – Sportheque, RA Centre and Goodlife Queensview have also suspended operations at their facilities until further notice.

Having conferred with others in our ODSA squash community, weighing the implications of the closing of Ottawa Recreation Facilities and using as much public information as reasonably available, the following decisions have been made:

  • Session 5 of ODSA Open City League is suspended.
  • The declaration of final standings for ODSA Open City League for the 2019-2020 season will be based on sessions 2, 3, & 4.
  • For the time being scheduled ODSA Cup matches should be still played Edit: [2020-03-16] – ODSA Cup has been suspended until further notice.

The ODSA will continue to monitor the situation and make additional announcements regarding upcoming The ODSA Cup Finals and any Closing Social when appropriate.

Some squashers will likely still keep playing based on their own assessment of the situation. Knowing the traditions of good squash sportsmanship it is expected that someone will extend a hand or even offer a bear hug after a good tough match.  We would ask you to suspend such actions for the foreseeable future.
