Iman Shaheen Makes Canadian Team for World Juniors

Congratulations to Ottawa’s 18 year-old Iman Shaheen on being selected for the Canadian team going to the World Junior Team and Individual Championships in Melbourne, Australia, next month (18-29 July).

Her successes, over the 8 years that she has played squash, have included Canadian GU13 (2017), GU15 (2019) and GU19 (2022), and Ontario GU19 Closed (2019 no error!) titles, plus membership of Ontario Women’s winning team at the Canadian Championship in 2020, and membership of the Canadian Junior Women’s team that won a bronze medal at the 2021 Junior Pan-Ams. In addition, she recently won the coveted Alex Doucas Memorial Award, given to the competitor at the Canadian Junior Squash Championships, who best exemplifies the spirit of fair play, enjoyment of life, and commitment to excellence, as exhibited by Alex Doucas during his lifetime.

Needless to say, none of these successes would have been attainable without the support of her family and coaches, and the experience gained in Canadian and international tournaments. Between them, Maxym Leclair and Heather Wallace in Ottawa for several years, and more recently Jamie Hickox in Kitchener-Waterloo, have provided the coaching and encouragement so necessary to bring Iman’s game to its present level.

We wish you, Iman, all the best in Australia, and look forward to seeing you back on Ottawa courts in the near future.
